Last weekend on August 3, 2019 Court Officer Trainee Renee Larkin and her family experienced a horrible tragedy. Her husband, Brendan, seriously injured himself in a swimming pool accident.
Unfortunately, as a result of this tragedy, Brendan is paralyzed from the chest down. Renee and Brendan have three young daughters and Renee will have to juggle her time between work, taking care of her children, and helping with Brendan's recovery. This horrific event will effect the family in countless ways. Brendan will be hospitalized for several weeks and his recovery will continue long after that. It is expected that Renee will be out of work for a while and she will soon be on leave without pay.
Regrettably, due to the fact that Renee is a new employee in the Court System she is not eligible for FMLA. She is also not eligible for sick bank time because sick bank only covers the union member's illness and not a family member's illness.
In order to assist her and her family with what will probably be severe financial burdens, The Suffolk County Court Officers Benevolent Association and The Suffolk County Court Employees Association will be holding a 10-13 fundraiser on Friday, September 6, 2019 at Momo's Too, located at 667 Montauk Highway, Bayport NY 11705, from 6PM to 10 PM. The entrance fee is $20.00 and food will be served.A raffle will be held with many prizes and all proceeds will be donated to the Larkin Family. Prize donations will gladly be accepted for the raffle as well as cash donations for the family. Checks should be made out to the Suffolk County Court Officer's Benevolent Association with Larkin 10-13 on the memo line.
Let's all come together and offer our support for Officer Larkin and her family to help them get through the financial challenges they will be facing.
